It's been a minute...

I saw Sinners this past Saturday, and I’m simply not the same person I was one movie ago. But that’s not the point, although I do want to see it again and post a review on TikTok. The point of this post is to check in with y’all and let you know what’s next for this publication and why I haven’t posted lately.

It’s obviously been a minute (more like over a month) since I last published my newsletter. If you read my note from last month on TikTok, then you’ll know I felt drained and uninspired, to both make video content and post on here. While I’ve ended my TikTok hiatus (more videos coming this week!), I had yet to do so here, until now.

As I mentioned before creating it, one reason why I started this Substack was to hopefully earn some extra cash to help with medical bills. Beyond that, whether paid or free, I wasn’t getting much readership, restacks, and close to zero comments. Whether it’s videos or writing, engagement is key and having any number of subscribers doesn’t mean much if I have no idea what my followers think!

This is the biggest reason for my radio silence here—the time and care I put into writing/researching with these weekly entries wasn’t yielding much, and it’s hard to have continued motivation. Not trying to guilt trip anyone, of course, but I think we all want our efforts to be appreciated, no matter what we do.

The good news, though, is that I’m not giving up! Whether 1 or 1000, I have to hold on to the fact that somebody out there likes hearing from me. Further still, it’s fun to write about one of my favorite periods in entertainment history. I know what I’m capable of, and I intend to keep going.

Nothing is changing schedule wise; you’ll still hear from me biweekly on Mondays, starting later today! I’ll periodically also, in lieu of LHAL editions some weeks, be doing short written intros to a Substack exclusive video, which will then be posted via TikTok at a later date.

In the meantime (especially since I mentioned it before), I want to hear from you all: is there a particular classic movie you’d like to see me cover for LHAL? I haven’t seen all there is to see, but if you want to get an idea of what I’ve watched thus far, feel free to check out my Letterboxd (susansvance)!

Also something very cool was discovered today: your girl ranks #37 in the Rising in Culture category! Which I’m super geeked out about!
